The original geographical marker itself, a simple marker just a short hike from the nearest road, is actually located 20 miles north of Belle Fourche. Because of the markers remote location, Belle Fourche leaders created a more accessible and visible monument nearer the city.

Belle Fourche River

The Belle Fourche River (prounced bell FOOSH) is a tributary of the Cheyenne River, approximately 290 mi (467 km) long, in the U.S. states of Wyoming and South Dakota. Via the Cheyenne and Missouri rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River.

Devils Tower Monument
